The shadows carried by a building or a set of urban necessarily impact the public spaces that surround them. However, the loss of sunshine can reduce the frequentation of relaxation areas (parks, coffee terraces, playgrounds …) located in this environment.

In the same way, the construction of a building or an urban complex can lead to significant variations in the solar exposure of the façades in a more or less close neighborhood (several hundred meters for towers). These variations will necessarily have repercussions on the light comfort of the occupants and may even have consequences on the hvac systems demand of energy.

The company OPTIFLOW carries out different types of simulations to study these phenomena:

  •  purely qualitative simulations, taking the form of heliodons, which highlight the shadows due to the project itself for different times of typical days
  • quantitative simulations, allowing to evaluate the influence of the project on the number of minutes of sunshine over the concerned zones.
