A large number of architectural and urban projects are organized around pedestrian passages, shopping area, relaxation or external food places. In this area, the people are expecting to have a high quality of wellness level in these different spaces and climatic comfort will have a direct impact on this. The wind appears to be one of the main climatic factors that can degrade the comfort of this type of space and should therefore be given special attention.
However, the wind flows in urban areas are very complex to apprehend and are strongly dependent of local aerodynamic effects. These latests are generated by the wind interaction with the various buildings. These phenomena can lead to strong localized wind accelerations that could make people’s circulation difficult, access to buildings entrance or the use of relaxation areas problematic.
The studies carried out by OPTIFLOW allow not only to characterize the quality of use of such spaces according to the type of activity of their users but also to understand the origin of the negatives aerodynamic phenomena at the origin of the encountered problems. Our expertise to understand and analyse the physics of these phenomena allows us to provide effective adapted solutions through proposals always respecting the imperatives of the building constrution or urban planning and of course the architectural bias.
